SOAP – Forgive Quickly

Colossians 3:13-14 The Message (MSG)

12-14 So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

I love how the Message phrases it: “Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you.”

For me, that’s the key. That’s the only way to keep myself from having a spirit of offense, getting put-off, thus allowing bitterness and resentment to get a foothold and start to take over.

Forgive quickly. Don’t dwell on it. Don’t go around talking about it, getting others all stirred up about it (but all the while disguising it as “seeking Godly counsel”). Listen to the stir of the Holy Spirit, respond in obedience, and forgive quickly. It frees you from those chains of anger, bitterness, and resentment.

It’s good to be free!
