SOAP with Pastor Doug – The Going without the Knowing

Genesis 12:1 (NLT)

The Call of Abram

The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.”

We’re all familiar with the story of how Abram was called.  But as I reflect on this one line, “…and go to the land that I will show you”, I can’t help but think of all the times in scripture, and in our own personal lives, that God calls us to do something, without necessarily giving us all the details up front.  There’s a critical reason why He does it this way:  He wants us to exercise our faith by trusting Him.

If we got all the details up front, trust wouldn’t be all that necessary, and thus, our faith wouldn’t be exercised and have a chance to grow.  God wants to see the going without the knowing.

There are some things we do know for sure:  we know He will never leave us;  we know He is faithful;  we know He goes before us, and after us, and holds us in His hand; we know He is sovereign, that there is nothing on this planet or in this universe that is outside of His reach. Yes, we may not always know all the details of the how and the who and the when, but we do know that He is awesome, and He wants us to experience His awesomeness.

So let’s go.
