Manna – What is it?

Exodus 16:4 New Living Translation (NLT)

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.

I love how God provides!  If you read through Exodus 16, you’ll find the story of how God provided for the people of Israel in the wilderness.  There’s a lot of things that stand out about this story: God’s faithfulness despite our lack of faith, God’s provision, our trust and obedience, and God’s instruction and patience with us.

What I want to look at this morning, is how God’s provision was just enough for each day.  It was never too little, and it was never too much.  When the Israelites tried to save some for the next day, out of fear or doubt, it would rot and be inedible.  But if they collected just what they needed for their household, for that day, God was always faithful to provide.

He’s still that way.  He provides what we need for this day.  Jesus even emphasizes that in His famous prayer model, “give us this day our daily bread.”  That is how we are to pray.

Here’s the deal:  God wants us to come to Him daily.  He desires that relationship.  He is faithful.  Let’s trust Him.
